The 2018 TechGrant Finalists are......
We are pleased to announce the finalists for the Innovation Park TechGrant Competition. On Wednesday, May 16th at 5:30pm, these companies will pitch their business idea for a chance to win an up to $15,000 grant to help commercialize their technology. The TechGrant Pitch Night is presented by Danfoss Turbocor Compressors, Inc. and Hancock Whitney Bank.
The 2018 finalists, in alphabetical order, are:
- DiaTech, Diabetic Technologies, LLC produces a medical device specifically for insulin therapy technology to detect delivery failure and injection site viability.
- Footy Training, LLC is a platform that provides curriculum for young athletes to train on their own and play against professional athletes.
- NeuroJungle, LLC produces a wearable limb manipulation device that is a virtual anatomical interactivity technology for stroke survivors.
- Nhu Energy, Inc. has developed bundled intelligent control and analytics products and services that can demonstrate new technologies and systems before deploying them into critical infrastructures.
- WeatherTiger, LLC created a seasonal forecasting algorithm that can improve existing long-range season weather forecasts for the commercial market.
Innovation Park has a new look
In case you haven’t noticed, Innovation Park has recently been getting some updates! Last month, the Park launched its newly designed website with innovative and exciting content. All of the Park’s information has been consolidated into one website- http://innovation-park.com/. The former LCRDA.org website is no longer online, but all the information has been migrated in to the new Innovation Park site. Make sure to check it out!
In addition to our digital upgrade, the monument signs at the Park have been changed. The foundation of the signs has been painted in darker shades, and the new signs include the Park’s current logo with the 3D buckyball. Be on the lookout for more changes coming in the future!
The Office of Economic Vitality is seeking an Applied Science and Innovation Project Manager
The Office of Economic Vitality is now accepting applications for a new position titled Applied Science and Innovation Project Manager. Applications are due by Friday, April 27. A brief job description can be viewed below:
This is professional administrative work responsible for managing activities to support business recruitment, expansion and retention in Tallahassee-Leon County specifically within the identified target industry sectors of Applied Sciences/Innovation and Information Technology/Professional Services. Manages implementation of the strategic actions identified by the Magnetic Taskforce to conduct business intelligence, identify potential customers, build an entrepreneurial pipeline and promote Tallahassee-Leon County as a location for magnetic technologies companies, and attract new companies and investments. This is a professional project manager position with a responsibility to work closely with and for the Director of the Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) and under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director for the Engagement and Operations Division to ensure that all business development programs, projects, and initiatives related to these industry sectors are implemented. This position will involve travel to national, regional, state and other communities.
Danfoss Turbocor President receives 2018 FSU Research Community Partner Award
Kim Williams, Vice-Chair of the Leon County Research and Development Authority, wrote a “Your Turn” opinion piece that was published in the Tallahassee Democrat regarding the Entrepreneurial Excellence Program.
Since 2011, the EEP Program has been a staple in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, and has helped more than 150 startups grow. Innovation Park’s own Larry Lynch started the program and has recently decided to retire. Michael Tentnowski, Innovation Park’s new Director of Entrepreneurship will take over the program this Fall.
National MagLab Will Receive $184 million from NSF for next 5 years
The National MagLab announced it is being awarded $184 million over the next five years by the National Science Foundation. This announcement solidifies the lab’s future in Tallahassee and brings total NSF funding to $867 million.
This represents a nearly 10-percent increase in funding over the previous five-year period.
New Food Truck on Fridays: The Tally Mac Shack!
Innovation Park is pleased to announce we have a new food truck on Fridays! The Tally Mac Shack will be serving up deliciously different mac and cheeses from 11-2pm in front of Shaw.
The Tally Mac Shack redefines macaroni and cheese with diverse mixes that are far different from the Kraft box that may be in your cupboard at home.
Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality and Leon County Government are teaming up to host the Ready Business workshop for disaster preparedness
On Thursday, April 26th, join Leon County Government and the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality, along with the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Inc. (FLASH) and the Florida Division of Emergency Management for a workshop on how to prepare your business for the next natural disaster.
This free workshop will provide attendees with the tools they need in order to create a disaster preparedness plan just in time for Hurricane Season.
Registration is required in order to attend, and lunch is provided
The TalTech Expo is April 18th!
The annual TalTech Expo is being held on Wednesday, April 18th from 8:00am-4:30pm at the FSU Turnbull Center in Tallahassee. The TechExpo is the only annual conference in Tallahassee dedicated to highlighting and promoting technology in Tallahassee and the surrounding area.
This year’s conference will be the biggest it’s ever been: speakers from all major business sectors will discuss how they utilize technology to save time and money.
