Danfoss to Expand in Tallahassee

New Research and Development Center To Be Added On To Current Facility and Will Add 120 New Jobs

Innovation Park of Tallahassee and its governing entity- the Leon County Research and Development Authority (LCRDA), are pleased to announce that research park resident, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors Inc.  is expanding its local operations by adding a new facility and a Research and Development Competence Center in Tallahassee. This new facility will expand Danfoss Turbocor’s existing presence, which currently includes engineering and manufacturing operations and an Application Development Center, which opened in 2017. This expansion at the Danfoss facility in Innovation Park will create 120 new, full-time research and development jobs within advanced manufacturing, with average salaries of $90,000, which is over 200% of Leon County’s annual wage. Construction of the new facility will begin early 2018 with completion in 2019.

The LCRDA worked with local and state economic development partners, including the Office of Economic Vitality, to assemble a package of eligible local and state funding as well as land opportunities in Innovation Park. Together, they successfully conveyed the benefits of choosing Innovation Park and Tallahassee-Leon County for Danfoss’ expansion.

Danfoss is a prime example of a business that flourishes due to its close proximity to university research institutions in a research park setting, and this expansion strengthens the existing partnerships with the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, National MagLab, other nearby research institutions and Tallahassee’s community.  It also serves to distinguish Tallahassee-Leon County as a competitive global research and development location.

In Tallahassee, we have the tremendous opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers in aerodynamics, power electronics, and magnetic technologies,” said Ricardo Schneider, president, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors. “We are excited and proud to grow our capabilities here and build on the success and potential of our relationship with great local partners.”

“We’re delighted to work with Danfoss and our economic development partners to help make this expansion happen,” stated Ron Miller, the Executive Director for the LCRDA. “We look forward to further growth from Danfoss, and the opportunity to work in the future with our partners to bring more companies and jobs to Innovation Park.”
