Spotlight: Danfoss Turbocor Opens Application Development Center
Danfoss Turbocor has opened its new Application Development Center at its facility in Innovation Park. The ADC is an advanced manufacturing test facility, and it is Danfoss’s only one in North America. The ADC will be used to test air conditioning systems for companies across the nation. MagLab Researchers and Chemist Awarded for their Research
Two MagLab physics researchers were honored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Luis Balicas and Kun Yang have been named Fellows of the AAAS. Balicas and Yang were among 391 members to be elected to this honor. Fellowship is given based on an election by their peers and recognizes them for helping advance science or its applications with scientifically distinguished work. Read more here….
MagLab chemist, Yan-Yan Hu received the 2017 Marion Milligan Mason Award along with $50,000 to help fund her continued research endeavors. She was one of only four awardees. This prestigious award is given by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and recognizes promising female scientists in the early stages of their career. Read more here….

FAMU Launches $5 million Partnership with Lockheed Martin
Florida A&M University and Lockheed Martin entered into an exclusive partnership that will enable faculty and students to assist in the development of space exploration projects, specifically the NASA Orion spacecraft. Orion is undergoing development and testing at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for future crewed Mars and deep-space exploration missions. The collaboration spans over the next 5 years and will also help Lockheed Martin increase its ranks of minority engineers. Read more here…

Important Dates Announced for the 2017 TechGrant Program
Innovation Park’s 12th Annual TechGrant program kicks off in January. The important dates for the program are as follows:
January 9, 2017: Application becomes available
February 13, 2017: TechGrant Application Orientation, 4 p.m., Knight Administrative Centre, 1736 W. Paul Dirac Drive
March 13, 2017: Applications due (Note: only complete applications will be considered. Application must include: Application Form, Company Profile, signed Applicant Agreement, Business and Commercialization Plan and, if appropriate, Prior Grant Recipient Form.)
April 12, 2017: Finalists announced
May 17, 2017: Elevator Pitch Night Event, 5:30 -7:30 p.m., Location TBD
Since 2005, 22 companies have benefitted from $387,000 in grants awarded for the commercialization of their technologies. Most of these companies are still flourishing in the local community today. Read more about the program…
Food Truck Update- Backpacker’s Box on Friday
The Mann’s Doghouse food truck is currently out of commission for repairs and will be back as soon as possible. Until then we are happy to have Backpackers Box filling in for them every Friday!
Backpackers Box food offerings incorporate an eclectic array of international flavors fused together to make something delicious. Their menu changes on a daily basis, so be sure to check out their Facebook page for their dishes for the day.
Food trucks are in Innovation Park everyday Monday through Friday from 11am-2pm in front of the Shaw Building (the corner of E. Paul Dirac Drive and Pottsdamer Road).
